Excerpt from an article in the Austin-American, Mar 1955:

SMITHVILLE, March 4
Henry Charles Bunte, 76, pioneer resident of Smithville, died Friday in a Bastrop hospital. He was a farmer and worked until about three months ago when he underwent surgery.

Excerpt from his obituary in The Smithville Times, Mar 1955:

He had been critically ill several times following major surgery in September, but a strong will to live always carried him through each crisis...Most of his life was spent near his father's holdings in Bastrop County. Much of this land was later known as Bunte Town.

Mr. Bunte was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Sons of Herman and Yeoman Lodges. He was interested in many public activities, being connected with the community school board of trustees, and also their census taker for over 40 years. He was outstanding in principles of right and justice, and friends and neighbors came to him for advice and help in time of need.
