  General Notes:

Records of the Bunte ancestors in Coswig were found in the St. Nicolai Kirche (Lutheran church) where Friedrich August Bunte was baptized.

In Coswig, August worked as a ship man on the Elba River.

August sailed from Bremen, Germany, in March 1869 to Galveston aboard the Hannover with his wife and two children. Their last residence had been Cosvig, Germany. They were steerage passengers. They arrived at New Orleans, Louisiana, on 6 Apr 1870 and then continued on to Galveston, Texas. His last residence was listed as Prussia, his occupation as farmer.

At the time of the 1870 census, August was a farm laborer in Austin County, Texas. He gave his birthplace and that of his parents as Anhalt. His age was shown as 42. At the time of the 1880 census, August was a farmer in Smithville, Bastrop County, Texas. He gave his birthplace and that of his parents as Prussia. His age was shown as 55. His son August, son's wife Meta, and 2 grandchildren were listed with him.

Although he was recognized as a strong swimmer, he drowned in the Colorado river while on a fishing trip near Winchester, Fayette County, Texas, according to a letter by Belle Bunte Harrell in 1950 and LaVerne Harrell Clark in 1967 article. (In her book, The Bunte Family History published in 1995, she gave the death location as Smithville, Bastrop County, Texas.)
