  General Notes:

According to his death certificate, Joseph's parents were J. G. Kimbrow and Annie Haun. The informant was his son, Bertie Elihu Kimbrow. Census evidence and the death certificate of his brother show this to be incorrect. Joseph's parents were William Kimbrow and Nancy Annie Branch, both born in Tennessee.

At the time of the 1850 census, his family lived at New Madrid, Missouri. The household consisted of William 36, Nancy 35, Amanda 8, Julia 4, Titus 1, John Branch 61, born in North Carolina, and Harvey Branch 26, born in Tennessee. His father apparently died between 1856 and 1860. At the time of the 1860 census, his mother was remarried to James P. Rice a Methodist Episcopal clergyman who had 5 children at home from his previous marriage. She was listed as Annie. The Kimbrow children were Amanda M. 16, Julia 14, Joseph T. 11, Elizabeth 9, Mary F. 6, and James H. 4.They lived in Clay, Dunklin County, Missouri.

At the time of the 1870 census, his sister Amanda 26 was married to Newton Harkey 30, a farmer born in Georgia. They lived in Clay, Douglas County, Missouri. She had 2 children: James 5 and Albert 1. The Kimbrow siblings living with her were Titus 21, Mary 16, and James 14. The boys were farm hands. Titus had $100 in personal assets. His brother James was still living with Amanda at the time of the 1880 census after she became widowed. In 1883, James married Lena M. Harkey, probably a sister to Amanda's husband. He stayed in Missouri and his 1939 death record there shows the mother as Annie Branch.

At the time of the 1880 census, Joseph was a farmer in Alvarado, Johnson County, Texas. He gave his parents' birthplace as Missouri. He was listed with his second wife Mary and newborn daughter, and two children from his previous marriage. His mother in law Mary C Head was listed with the family.

Property 1: October 6, 1887, Bought land, for $700, with D.E. Clowdus situated in the cross timbers on the head waters of Chambers Creek which is about 9 miles east of Cleburne/Johnson County, Texas

Property 2: November 1, 1890, For $400 Joseph T. bought out D.E. Clowdus' interest in the property situated in the cross timbers on the head waters of Chambers Creek which is 9 miles east of Cleburne/Johnson County, Texas

At the time of the 1900 census, Joseph was farming in Johnson County, Texas. He owned his farm free of any mortgage. He gave his parents' birthplace as Tennessee. On the 1910 census, Joseph indicated that the marriage to Mary was his second and that this marriage had lasted 32 years so far. He gave his father's birthplace as Missouri and his mother's as Tennessee. He was farming a general farm. He was paying a mortgage to own his farm.
