At the time of the 1870 census, Lewis was still farming in Bell County, Texas. He had real estate valued at $700 and personal assets of $1000. He was still farming in Bell County,Texas, at the time of the 1880 census. He farmed 62 acres and had 35 acres of woodland. His farm was valued at $1500.
