Jesse was listed as a farm laborer in the 1900 census. He wasn't working at the time of the 1910 census. He was living with his sister Edna's family in Snyder, Scurry County, Texas. When Jesse registered for the WWI draft on 12 Sep 1918, he was working as a druggist in Wylie, Collin County, Texas. He listed his brother Martin Allen Grimes of Snyder, Scurry County, Texas, as his nearest relative.

OBITUARY

The sudden death of Jesse GRIMES, Canadian druggist, Saturday morning, August 6, at his home, was a shock to his family and the entire community. Although in poor health, his death was not expected.

He was born in Bland, Bell County January 14, 1883 [more likely 1882]. Mr. GRIMES was a past president of the Canadian Rotary Club, had served as a steward of the Methodist church and as a director of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. He was president of the Hemphill County school board at the time of his death .

Mr. GRIMES came to Canadian 16 years ago. His immediate surviving relatives are his widow and three step-children. Mrs. GRIMES is a daughter of Mrs. G. W. ARRINGTON of Canadian and a sister of Mrs. A. R. HOGHLAND of this county.
