  General Notes:

August's WWII army enlistment record showed that he had a grammar school education. His civilian occupation was farm hand, general farm. He was single, without dependents. He was living in Burnet County, Texas.

Excerpt from his 14 Jun 1946 letter to his parents:

I am at Dachaw, Germany, at the slave labor camp. We came here on May 2 and set up a general hospital. We are getting the sick ones in shape to send back to their country. They have people from most every country over here. When we came here there were about 40 thousand people here.

I suppose you have read in the paper about this place. Well, it is just as bad as they state it and worse. They had the crematory right here at the compound. They were really a lot of bodies stacked up to be burned.

No children were born to Dick and Sally, but he helped raise his stepchildren. Social Security had his last residence as Burnet, Burnet County, Texas. He was listed as A.M. Wall. His tombstone was carved with a birth date of 23 Aug 1919.
