Lera was quite skillful with her hands and was probably the best cotton picker to go into the field. She has been known to have picked 500 pounds of cotton in one day. On any day she could help milk the cows, fix breakfast, repair a few cotton sacks, go to the field after everyone else had left, pick cotton until time to prepare dinner and still pick more cotton than anyone else. Lera gave her father's birthplace incorrectly as the United States on the 1920 census. She gave it as Belgium (which may be correct) on the 1930 census. Lera married Andrew Jackson Thompson, son of William Riley Thompson and Sophronie Caroline Calbert Taylor, on 10 Dec 1911 in Spicewood, Burnet County, Texas.1 2 3 (Andrew Jackson Thompson was born on 7 Feb 1872 in Rusk, Cherokee County, Texas,14 died on 29 Nov 1944 in Spicewood, Burnet County, Texas 14 15 and was buried on 30 Nov 1944 in Rockvale Cemetery, Spicewood, Burnet County, Texas 14 16.). The cause of his death was cerebral hemorrhage, hypostatic pneumonia.11   Marriage Notes: Lera and Jack Thompson were married by Rev. D. A. McInnish at his home.
