  General Notes:

Jack had an identical twin, George Washington Thompson. Just for fun, they would pretend to be the other. Jack had an enlarged pupil of the eye that he called a cat eye which allowed him to see at night. The light hurt it in the daytime. He was known to have carried 250 pounds of flour in five sacks from his wagon to the house at the same time. He would put two sacks on his shoulders, two under his arms and one in his teeth and on his stomach. He could stand on his head and pop to his feet at age 72. According to Mike Wall, he could walk on his hands down a cotton middle. As well as their physical strength, Jack and Lera had strong moral characters. From the recollections of Noah L. Thompson

Essie Thompson remembers that when she was in high school, older women telling her how good looking her dad was and how many girls "set their cap" for him. Prior to his marriage, Jack was a teamster and lived in Oklahoma when Oklahoma was still Indian Territory. From the recollections of
Essie M. Thompson

Jack returned from Fox in Indian Territory. (Fox is in Carter County, now Oklahoma. Ardmore is the county seat.) He is planning to stay in Burnet County for 1 year. He and his brother, George, are raising hogs. From the Marble Falls newspaper, 29 Jan 1903

At the time of the 1920 census, Jack was paying a mortgage to own his home in Burnet County, Texas. He was farming a general farm. He gave his parents birthplace as Alabama. By the time of the 1930 census, he owned his home on a farm in Burnet County, Texas. He was farming.

He was a member of the Methodist church and always took an active interest in church affairs at the old Rockvale church before the membership of that church was transferred to Marble Falls, Texas.
