Record provided by Jane Ann Lakie Bronstad suggested his parents may have been Heinrich Karl Koch and Ilse Margauirete Pabst.

Christian Koch arrived in Galveston, Texas on 8 Jul 1852 from Bremen, Germany aboard the Bark Creole. His occupation was shown as cartwright. He applied for US citizenship on 7 Nov 1855.

At the time of the 1870 census, Christian was farming in Austin County, Texas (PO Industry). He had real estate valued at $2000 and personal assets of $1000. He gave his birthplace as Brunswick and showed that his parents were of foreign birth. He was shown to be a citizen. Bernhard Stratmann, 28 farm laborer born in Oldenburg, Ernst Harsch, 18 farm laborer born in Wuertemoerg, and Heinrich (Henry) Koch, 28 wagon maker born in Brunswick, were listed with the family. Henry may have been a brother or a cousin. The relationship was not indicated on the census. He married Christian's stepdaughter Minna the next year.

At the time of the 1880 census, Christian gave his parents' birthplace as Brunswick also. He was a farmer in Austin County, Texas. He did a lot of freight hauling for the Lindmann store in Industry, Texas.
