Emil was listed as working on the farm in Austin County, Texas, on the 1880 census. At the time of the 1900 and 1910 census, he was paying a mortgage to own his farm in Austin County, Texas. He listed his parents' birthplace as Germany. His brother Herman was listed with him in 1900. He did a lot of freight hauling for the Lindmann store in Industry, Texas.

By the time of the 1920 census, the family had moved to Bastrop County, Texas. Emil rented his home. His occupation was shown as farmer, farm operator. He was listed as Koch.

Changed spelling of name to Cook because of WWII with Germany. He was listed in the Texas Death Index as Emil Cook.

On the 1900 census, Emil gave his birth date as Feb 1870, age 30. He and his twin brother Edward were shown on the 1870 census as 3/12 old in Aug 1870 with a birth month of Feb. The tombstone has 18 Feb 1869. It was cut wrong.
