  General Notes:

Gustav was listed as working on the farm in Austin County, Texas, on the 1880 census. At the time of the 1900 census, Gustav was a farmer in Bastrop County, Texas. He was renting his farm. He had married his brother's widow and his nieces (and stepdaughters) Ella Koch and Hilda Koch were listed with his family.

His wife Clara was listed with the children as divorced in Milam County, Texas, in the 1910 census.

There is a possible match in the 1910 census that shows Gustav in a second marriage with a 9/12 year old son. The child was conceived while Clara was pregnant with their last child. It is listed in the same county where Clara is living. Here are the details for future consideration:

Source Citation: Year: 1910; Census Place: Justice Precinct 7, Milam, Texas; Roll T624_1578; Page: 1B; Enumeration District: 71; Image: 252.

Gustav Cook 44 second marriage 0 years, born in Texas, parents born in Germany, day laborer farm, rents home, Laura wife 29 first marriage, 1 child born 1 living, born in Texas, parents born in Missouri, Sam son 9/12 in Apr 1910 born in Texas

In 1920, a Laura Cook the right age but without Sam in Milam County, Texas, indicated she was a widow.

I couldn't find another match for Gustav in 1910, but a likely one was in the 1920 census:

Gus Koch owns home 32 farmer general farm, Otilie 29 came to America in 1911 naturalized 1912 she and parents born in Cassel Germany, speaks English, Vernon 7 born in Texas, Ervin 5 born in Texas, Emma 3 born in Texas

I feel I need direction from a close family member before ascribing either of these findings to this individual.--Rose Lee Wall 2009

His granddaughter Dora's husband Earnest Presley was the informant on his death certificate.
