His birth date was given as Dec 1891 and age as 8 on the 1900 census. His age was given as 15 on the 1910 census. He was a laborer who worked out. Juanita's birth affidavit showed that he was an oil field worker in 1911.

At the time of the 1920 census, William owned his home in Marble Falls, Burnet County, Texas, free of any mortgage. His occupation was worker in an oil field. About this time, according to his great granddaughter, Susan Turner Polansky, he ran off with a school teacher. Mattie took Juanita and Jewel to Monterey, Mexico, where she ran a cafe near the train station. She stayed there several years. He returned to her later when he became sick and she took care of him until he died.
