She listed her parent's birthplace simply as United States in 1910. In 1920, she was widowed. She gave her father's birthplace as Georgia and the mother's as Texas. This is the information her parents gave on the 1900 census. Her brother, Julius Venable, was living with her and he gave differing information for the mother's birthplace. He said Alabama. In 1920, Stella was paying a mortgage to own her home in Mills County, Texas.

By 1930 she was married to Samuel Martin McCasland and living in Mills County, Texas. The family consisted of his children Harmon, Wilma, and Homer. and their children together, daughters Ruby Dell b. 1926, Bobbie G. b. 1928 and Sammie Lane (mistakenly listed as a son). Birth record follows.

Obituary of the daughter in Paris News, 18 Oct 2009:
Sammie Lane McConnell BOGATA ? Sammie Lane McConnell of Bogata died Friday, Oct. 16, 2009. Funeral services have been set for 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, at First Baptist Church of Bogata. John Purviance of Cuthand Methodist Church will officiate, along with Bobby Tollison of First Baptist Church. Burial is to follow in Bogata Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home. The family is to receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. She was born Aug. 11, 1929, in Hamilton, the daughter of Stella Venable McCasland and Samuel Martin McCasland. She graduated from Star High School in Mills County at age 16 and enrolled at The University of Texas in Austin. After college, she worked for the Winkler County Hospital in Kermit where she met and married Sam A. McConnell. They lived in Snyder until 1963 when they moved to Bogata to develop a cow calf operation. She was a beautician for more than 20 years and owned her own business, The Beauty Nook. She was also a member of First Baptist Church and had been active in Eastern Star, Band Boosters and PTA. She was an avid sports fan and had enjoyed working with her husband Sam McConnell on their ranch, gardening, fishing and painting. She was preceded in death by a son, Gary Sam McConnell, in 1972; and her husband in 2006. She is survived by daughters, Melanie Klein and husband, Ken, of Whitehouse and Ginger Foster and husband, Morris, of Bogata; granddaughters, Jill Foster of Paris and Alison Foster of Fort Worth; and sisters, Bobbie Soules and Ruby Dell Harper and husband, Pete,of Mills County.
