Excerpt from her obituary:

She began her career as a cottage parent in Fort Warden Juvenile Treatment Center in Port Townsend (Washington), and was known to the youth as "Mrs. K." When Fort Warden closed, she transferred to Echo Glenn Juvenile Treatment Center in Issaquah, where she retired from Washington state service in 1982. After her retirement, she moved to Olympia to be closer to her two daughters. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, crafts, collecting antiques, garage sales and spending time with family and friends.

She was brought back to Texas and buried in Rockvale Cemetery on land donated by her grandfather in 1872.
