County Mourns June 8 Passing Of Mrs. Luther H. Soules, Sr., Age 58 Mrs. Luther H. Soules, Sr., of Route 1, Goldthwaite, a member of a pioneer Mills County family, died on Friday of last week at Saint Paul's Hospital in Dallas. she was 58 last March.
Mrs. Soules was stricken on May 25 and she was taken to Dallas for medical treatment when it became apparent that her condition was critical.
Funeral services were conducted at four o'clock last Saturday afternoon at the First Baptist Church in Goldthwaite. The Rev. Joseph L. Emery, Pastor of the Riverside Baptist Church in Houston and former Pastor in Goldthwaite, and the Rev. J. T. Ayers, present Pastor, officiated. Interment was in the Goldthwaite Memorial Cemetery with arrangements by the Fairman-Wilkins Funeral Home.
Mrs. Soules, the former Blanche Harper, was born in Mills County on March 22, 1893. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Harper, who died in 1944. Mrs. Soules attended schools in Goldthwaite and at Moody.
She and Mr. Soules were married on November 8, 1914, at the Baptist Church in Star. Mrs. Soules had been a member of the Baptist Church since she was nine years of age.
Six children survive. They are Luther H. Soules, Jr., of Dallas, Edward Soules of Tyler, Fred Soules of College Station, J. T. Soules of San Jose, Costa Rica; John Soules of Cayuga in East Texas, and Janet, who lives with her father on Route 1, Goldthwaite.
Brothers and sisters who survive are Mrs. J. D. Giles of Denison, Burton and John Harper of Anton, Woody Harper of Plainview, Mrs. Rex Mahan of Brownwood, J. B. Harper of San Saba, and S. F. Harper of Fort Worth.
In addition, Mrs. Soules is survived by nine grandchildren.
One of her sons, J. T., arrived by air from Costa Rica in time to reach his mother's bedside at Dallas on June 6.
The high esteem in which Mrs. Soules was held by one and all was shown by an overflow attendance at final rites at the First Baptist Church in Goldthwaite last Saturday afternoon. A profusion of floral offerings also were testimony to the love bestowed on Mrs. Soules by her friends and neighbors.
Pall bearers for the funeral were Loy Long, Wallace Johnson, Luther Ray Rudd, Farest Frazier, Houston Duren and Douglas Collier. 1
