General Notes:
A Tribute of Memory to the Life of W. E. Harper W. E. Harper was the son of a Mills County farmer, S. F. Harper, deceased. Edd was the oldest child of a family of thirteen children.
He was a small youth when his parents moved to the Star Community in Mills County. Part of his education was obtained at the Long Branch Rural one-teacher school, after which he attended the Evant High School until he finished the tenth grade. His ambition and courage led him to study law at home. While he never made a lawyer of himself, the study of law and government gave him an insight of life and its possibilities.
In the year of 1891, Mr. Harper married Miss Francis Laura Adkins, a music teacher from Moody, Texas. To this union ten children were born. Eight of those ten are still living. They are: Mrs. Luther Soules of Goldthwaite, Mrs. J. D. Giles of Gainesville, Burton, John, S. F., and Woody Harper of Anton, Texas, Mrs. R. C. Mahan of Mullin, and J. B. Harper of Brownwood.
Mr. Harper was known as a good, upright, honest citizen. He was dependable. He was a man of stern personality. Many times he proved to be a friend of the poor, needy, unfortunate man. Truly, if everyone whom he had befriended were to place a flower upon his casket, our goldenhearted friend would sleep beneath a wilderness of roses.
Mr. Harper was a Christian man. He loved God, proving it by reading His word. In the year of 1943 he read the Bible through five times. He studied and meditated the thoughts and truths that God has given to all of his servants.
Mr feeling could not be expressed in words when the announcement of his death came. Our many Christian experiences together became realities. In truth, he had met his God and Master face to face.
His life, a beautiful combination of faith and works, is passed, and he has gone to live with Jesus.--A Friend 3
