Dr. William Hayes Brosius received his education in the common schools and at the Shippensburg State Normal School. At the time of the 1880 census, William was a druggist in Green Castle, Franklin County, Pennsylvania. A boarder in the hotel his father operated was Dr. D. Reutch Miller. William began reading medicine with Dr. Miller at Mason and Dixon, and later with Dr. Frank A. Bushey, in Greencastle, Pennsylvania. After the usual course of study, he was graduated M.D. in 1886 from Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was admitted into the Medical Society in 1886 and was President in 1891. At the time of the 1900 and 1910 census, William was a physician in Quincy, Franklin County, Pennsylvania. He owned his home free of mortgage. At the time of the 1920 and 1930 census, William was a doctor in Mont Alto, Franklin County, Pennsylvania. He owned his home free of mortgage. It was valued at $5000 in 1930. At that time, his son Glen, daughter in law Jane and grandsons Dick and William were living with them. William also served as Post Master and Mayor of Mont Alto, Pennsylvania. He also served on the Board of Trustees for the Citizens National Bank of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania.

Mont Alto Physician Prominent in Community Affairs Dies Yesterday

In the death of Dr. William Hayes Brosius Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., a brief notice of which appeared in this paper the same evening, Mont Alto, suffers the loss of its most prominent citizen and this section of the county one of its best known physicians. Beloved by the people of the entire Mont Alto neighborhood, his death comes to them in the nature of a personal bereavement. Afflicted with Bright's disease for the past two years, he was bedfast only for the last two weeks. He was 70 years old.

Dr. Broslus was the son of Emanuel and Jane Hayes Brosius, west of Welsh Run, this county, and was born there May 1,1860. In his young manhood he lived for a while in McConnellsburg, later locating in Greencastle where he conducted a drugstore for some time. Having decided to read medicine he had as preceptors then the late Drs. Miller and Bushey, of Greencastle, before entering Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia. He graduated from that institution in June, 1886, and not long there after located in Mont Alto where he since resided a period of 44 years and where he always had the confidence of the whole public and a high degree of popularity.

Dr. Brosius for years was identified with nearly every movement, civic and religious, for the betterment of Mont Alto and vicinity. He was an active member of the United Brethren church the Patriotic Order Sons of America and the county and state medical societies; also a member of the Chambersburg hospital staff. He served as a Quincy township school director for six years and filled the office of burgess, town councilman and postmaster of Mont Alto at different times. For 19 years he was one of the directors of the Citizens National Bank of Waynesboro and during all of this time attended to a large practice in his profession. Such were some of the varied activities of Dr. Brosius busy life in Franklin county.

The deceased is survived by his widow, Laura Rouse Brosius, and two children,Mrs. Pansye R., wife of Ira Shenefelt, and Glen Brosius, of Mont Alto, brother, Wilson Brosius of Mercersburg, and sister, Mrs. Richard Colburn of Baltimore.

The funeral service will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the home, in charge of Rev. H. C. Kottler, and burial in Mont Alto.
The body may be viewed Friday evening from 7 to 9 o'clock.
