William G. Turner, well known retired Plateau Valley stock grower and resident of Mesa county since 1906, died at 10 p.m. Tuesday at the home of a daughter, Miss Anis Turner, principal of Hawthorne school, 727 Glenwood Ave.

Mr. Turner had been ill for several years.

Furneral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Martin chapel, with the Rev. William W. Meyer officiating. Cremation will follow.

Mr. Turner was born Oct. 1, 1865, at Albia, Iowa, the son of James B. and Mary Grimes Turner. He spent his childhood at Albia. The deceased married Emma Noble Feb. 25, 1885, at Pontiac, Kan. They resided at Kellerton and Humeston, Iowa, until they removed to Grand Junction in 1906.

Mr. Turner helped in the early development of Grand Junction. He was employed by the city for several years, and later was commissary supply man for the labor camp that constructed the original Kannah Creek water system for Grand Junction.

The Turners removed to Collbran in 1914 and he engaged in the livestock business there until retiring in 1934 and removing to the city. Mrs. Turner preceded him in death.

William's father, James Blackburn Turner, was born in Tennessee, his mother, Mary J. Grimes, in Indiana. At the time of the 1870 census, the family lived in Troy, Monroe County, Iowa where his father and 2 older brothers farmed. His siblings were Samuel, Gilbert, Sarah, and George. The family was in Troy at the time of the 1880 census also. Only William and a 1 year old sister Ida M. was still at home with his parents. There were 2 others, a boarder and a housekeeper listed with the family. At the time of the 1900 census, William owned his farm free of any mortgage in Richman, Wayne County, Iowa. At the time of the 1910 census, he was a teamster working for the city and living in Allen, Mesa County, Colorado. At the time of the 1920 census, William was a general farmer in Collbran, Mesa County, Colorado. He was paying a mortgage to own his home. This time he said his father was born in Pennsylvania.

William married Emma Noble, daughter of Rev George Washington Noble and Mary Elizabeth Knight, on 25 Feb 1885 in Pontiac, Butler County, Kansas. (Emma Noble was born on 4 Jul 1865 in Albia, Monroe County, Iowa 6 and died on 9 Oct 1930 in Grand Junction, Mesa County, Colorado 6.)
