Kent Geeslin
Don Kent Geeslin, 66, of Goldthwaite, died May 30th, 2017 with his wife of 25 years by his side. He passed away at his home away from home and the place where he worked and played for his entire lifetime - the Geeslin river place on the Colorado River.
Kent was born August 3, 1950 in San Saba, Texas, to Della and Don Geeslin. He grew up in Mills County. As a young boy, he rarely stayed indoors, instead always out and about enjoying nature and exploring. He grew up helping his father Don raise turkeys and hogs. He also enjoyed rodeos during his high school years. Kent was a member of the Church of Christ and he was baptized on July 24, 1963. Kent graduated from Goldthwaite High School in 1968. After graduation, he attended Angelo State University before joining the United States Navy. After serving in the Navy, he lived and worked San Angelo for a brief time before moving back to Mills County to work alongside his father at Don Geeslin Farms. This work included operating a sheep feedlot, a feed mill, and raising goats and cattle. In 1979, Kent and his brother, Mark, purchased the Chevro-let dealership in Goldthwaite and operated Geeslin Motors for approximately 9 years. While working and raising a family, Kent also served on the board of the National Lamb Feeders Association, was an original board mem-ber of First State Bank, for-merly First National Bank, on the board of directors of the Brownwood Bass Club, and served several terms as a board member of the Mills County Hunting and Fishing Club.
After his father's death in 1987, Kent, his two sib-lings, and their mother Della established Geeslin Farms, which remained in operation until Della's death in 2014. Kent then became a part-time rancher and full-time piddler.
Kent was an avid outdoors-man and shared his love of fishing, hunting, and camping with all of his children and family. He also enjoyed fly-ing, which inspired his son, Michael, to obtain his pilot li-cense. They spent many hours flying together. Kent com-peted for many years in the Brownwood Bass Club, earn-ing the title of Angler of the Year several times. He and his wife Neta also competed in couples fishing tournaments for many years and made a lot of fishing friends along the way, while winning awards as well.
Survivors include his wife Neta Geeslin of Goldthwaite, sons Brian Geeslin and Mi-chael Geeslin of Goldthwaite, a daughter Kristi Lever-ett and Joe of Goldthwaite, step-son Craig Auldridge of Goldthwaite, step-daughter Jenny Amonett and Aaron of Abilene, sister, Linda Miles and Elam of Goldthwaite, brother, Mark Geeslin and Kathy of Goldthwaite.
