When he registered for the WWI draft on 12 Sep 1918, he was farming for himself in Center City, Mills County, Texas. His wife, Florence, was his nearest relative. By 1920 he owned his farm free of any mortgage. In the 1930 census, the farm was listed as a stock farm. He was a lifelong resident of Mills County, Texas.
