![]() General Notes: ARLINGTON -- M. Kenneth Grimes, 91, passed away on Friday, January 9, 2009 in Arlington. Graveside Service: Monday, Jan. 19 at 11:00 a.m. at Mission Park Cemetery South, San Antonio. Military honors by the U.S. Navy honor guard will be provided. Memorial Service: Saturday, Jan. 24 at 2:00 p.m. in First Presbyterian Church of Arlington, 1200 S. Collins with Rev. Robert McClelland officiating. A family reception will be held following the memorial service at the church. Memorials: Memorial gifts may be made to the at 800-242-8721. Ken was born on February 9, 1917 in Comanche, TX to Newton B. and May Mobley Grimes. He was raised in San Antonio and graduated from South San Antonio High School. Ken graduated from Texas A&I in 1940 where he ran track, and played basketball and football. In football he earned 4 letters, was captain for two years, and made the All-Alamo Conference team. In 1973, he was inducted into the Texas A&I Football Hall of Fame. Ken served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Lieutenant Commander earning a Bronze Star. He was a branch manager for Associates Finance Company and Sr. V.P. at First Bank and Trust in Bryan for many years. Ken was a long time Rotarian in Bryan and Nacogdoches and a Paul Harris Fellow. He was also a member of the Arabia Temple of Houston Masonic Lodge for many years, a 32 degree Mason. Ken was a resident of Arlington since 2005 and attended the First Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed playing golf, hunting and fishing, and the outdoors. Ken is preceded in death by his sister, Mary Hoffman and brother, Lewis Grimes. Survivors: Wife of 65 years, Eloise Taylor Grimes of Arlington; daughter, Sheri Schember Quick and husband, Dr. James Campbell Quick of Arlington; son, Robert K. "Bob" Grimes and wife, Becky of Boerne; brother, Elbert B. Grimes of San Antonio; and 5 grandchildren, Kyle Schember, Kari Lu and husband, Jimmy, Jefferson Grimes, Jordan Grimes and wife, Whitney, and Molly Kate Grimes. ![]() Additional Information: • Military Service: as Lt.
