At the time of the 1930 census, Otho was newly married. He was listed in Temple, Bell County, Texas, where he worked as a delivery man. The company name is illegible. He rented his home for $22.50 a month.

Otho worked for the Santa Fe Railroad from 1941 until he retired in 1973. He and his wife traveled extensively on their railroad passes. He became a collector of railroad date nails, railroad lanterns and old locks. He was a deacon at Immanuel Baptist Church in Temple, Texas,and later at the First Baptist Church of Little River, Texas. He was a Mason.

He was affectionately known as "Dad-O" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and "Uncle L" to his many nieces and nephews.
