In the 1910 census, Lester was listed as a farm laborer on the home farm. At the time of the 1920 census, he was a merchant with his own store in Bell County, Texas. He was renting his home. At the time of the 1930 census which was taken 9 Apr 1930, Lester rented his home in Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas, for $50 a month. He was a manager for Goodyear Tire. His nephew Windford (?) Grimes 25 was listed with the family. He was a salesman. (This may be his brother Ernest's son Winfred who was listed with his own family on 4 Apr 1930 in Bell County, Texas, as a salesman.)

Lester married Mary Thelma about 1918. (Mary Thelma was born on 24 Feb 1904 in Texas,9 died on 7 Dec 1973 9 and was buried in City of Lubbock Cemetery, Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas 10.)
Lester next married Beverly Norwood.
