  General Notes:

She began her teaching career in Lometa and retired from the Casis School in 1974, after 41 years. It was a demonstration and research school of the University of Texas. She always taught the 4th grade. She also worked on many publications for the University of Texas.

She was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Lampasas, where she taught adult Sunday school classes for 45 years. She taught herself to play the organ and practiced every day.

Social Security had her last residence as Lampasas, Lampasas County, Texas.

Eleanor Head
Ms. Eleanor Head, age 95, of Lampasas, died Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at her residence. Eleanor was born in Mills County, Texas, the daughter of James Welch Head and Lufa Owens Head. Eleanor graduated from Lometa High School in 1930, then graduated from San Angelo Jr. College in 1932, went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts degree at The University of Texas (with Honors), she then earned her Master of Arts degree from The University of North Texas. Eleanor's 41 year teaching career began in Lometa and later in Devine, Texas. She then moved to Austin where she enjoyed 31 years of educating students. She retired in 1974. Her Church work was important to her having taught adult Sunday School classes for 45 years. She was a devoted volunteer, having worked at the local Love Center for many years. She was an active member and former President of the Retired Teacher's Association, Bud and Blossom Club, Church Women United and United Methodist Women. She taught a women's Bible study and attended Mt. Wesley schools of Christian Mission. She also enjoyed travels to Europe, Hawaii, Alaska, Canada and Israel.

Funeral services for Eleanor Head were held on Friday, December 4, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor George Lumpkin officiating. Interment was at Lometa City Cemetery.

Survivors include long-time friend and roommate Frances Orborne of Lampasis; brother Thurman Head and wife Syble of Goldthwaite, Texas; brother-in-law Melvin Landers of Lometa; a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Eleanor was preceded in death by four sisters Vonnie Price, Ola B. Landers, Nadine Core and Ruby Brazil.

Sneed Funeral Chapel handled arrangements.
