Cause of his death was acute respiratory failure due to acute pulmonary edema and probable acute myocardial infarction.6

Esther was working as a laborer on the home farm at the time of the 1910 census. When he registered for the WWI draft, he listed his occupation as clerk in a grocery store owned by Wofford Bros. in Cleburne, Johnson County,Texas. He was single. At the time of the 1920 census, he was working as a manager of a grocery store. At the time of the 1930 census, he was working as a bookkeeper at a creamery. He owned his home in Cleburne, Johnson County, Texas, valued at $4500. His nephew Edward E. and niece Iris M. Miller were living with him. They were the children of Edward Henry Miller and Sarah Elizabeth Berry (his wife's sister who died in 1912).
His death certificate showed that he retired from civil service.
Social Security had his last residence as Hillsboro, Hill County, Texas. He had lived in Hillsboro for 11 years.

Esther married Maude A. Berry, daughter of Henry S. Berry and Kitty Elizabeth Pelt, about 1921. (Maude A. Berry was born on 11 Aug 1890 in Texas,10 died on 13 Oct 1964 in Killeen, Bell County, Texas 10 and was buried on 15 Oct 1964 in Killeen Memorial Park, Killeen, Bell County, Texas 10 11.). The cause of her death was CVA due to cerebral atherosclerosis.6
Esther next married Florence Elizabeth Garrett. (Florence Elizabeth Garrett was born on 15 Apr 1898, died on 3 Feb 1980 and was buried in Rosehill Cemetery, Cleburne, Johnson County, Texas.)
