Marye's father, Henry H. Berry, was born in Louisiana, her mother, Kitty Elizabeth Pelt, in Texas. At the time of the 1900 census, the family was living in Hamilton County, Texas, where her father farmed. Her siblings were Sarah E. Oscar O., Mittie B., Louella, and Callie. All were born in Texas. Another sibling, Henry, was born about 1902, but by 1910 her mother was widowed. At the time of the 1930 census, she was a proprietor of a creamery related business. She lived in Killeen, Bell County, Texas, her last 22 years.

Marye married Esther Enoch Head, son of James Allison Head and Modena Bell Stephens, about 1921. (Esther Enoch Head was born on 26 Nov 1891 in Cleburne, Johnson County, Texas,^{5 6} died on 7 May 1976 in Hillsboro, Hill County, Texas ^{6 7 8} and was buried on 10 May 1976 in Killeen Memorial Park, Killeen, Bell County, Texas ^{6 9}.). The cause of his death was acute respiratory failure due to acute pulmonary edema and probable acute myocardial infarction.³
