  General Notes:

His father William Sparkman was born in North Carolina. His mother Sarah Tate Anthony was born in Georgia. He had a twin brother, Robert that died as a young boy when a tree struck by lightening fell on him. At age 13 he lived with his family in Fayette County, Georgia. By 1860, his father had moved the family to Panola County, Texas. William wasn't listed with them. Instead he seems to be listed in Garden Valley, Smith County, Texas, where he was a teacher at a common school. He had personal assets of $100. In the 1870 census, his birthplace was shown as Alabama. He was farming in Rusk County, Texas. He had real estate worth $500 and personal assets of $300.

He was a member of the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He was a Baptist minister. His grave has not been located as of 2010. "All I can tell you on this is that Granny Tennie Sparkman said William Moses Sparkman had gone to Chalk Mountain to hold a Church meetings, took sick and died, and was buried there. All this was done before China got word of his death. In the Chalk Mountain Cemetery there are about 350 graves the oldest one 1874. They comment that they believe older graves before 1874 are there. It is maintained and would be a place we need to visit and see if anyone has a list of who may be buried in the old graves".--Wanda Sparkman 19 May 2010 6
