At the time of the 1940 census, Robert and Sarah Chapman were sharing their home in Goldthwaite, Mills County, Texas with son, E. Talmage and his children Talmage Jr, Billie Ray, and Edward.

R. S. Chapman, father of Talmage Chapman of this city, passed away at his home here early Friday morning. He was laid to rest at the Caradan Cemetery at 5 o'clock last Friday afternoon, Revs. Jack and Marion West conducting the funeral services.
Mr. Chapman, who was 73 years of age last Feb. 8, had lived in Mills County for several years.
Surviving him is his wife; four daughters, Mrs. A. C. LeFerney of Rosebud, Texas, and Mrs. Lola Lawrence, Mrs. Minnabell Lumpkin and Mrs. Thelma Faulkenbury, all of Waco; and two sons, Bill Chapman of Houston, and Talmage Chapman of Goldthwaite. 4
Robert married Sarah Elizabeth Denman, daughter of William A. Denman and Elizabeth Ann Green, in 1890. (Sarah Elizabeth Denman was born on 8 Feb 1874 in Texas, died on 30 Jul 1947 in Waco, McLennan County, Texas 5 and was buried in Caradan Cemetery, Caradan, Mills County, Texas 6.)
