  General Notes:

"My grandfather provided for Aunt Anna after her husband's death. She lived at the ranch for a while and then married a man named Richey in Denver--we called her Aunt Anna and kept in touch --she lived to be 104 yrs old and outlived all her family. She lived in a nursing home on Glenarm street and had a certificate from the president of the United States every year after her 100th birthday.

She was a Christian Scientist and wouldn't let a doctor near her--when she was well over 100--they amputated one of her legs and she was in the act of suing them when she died.

I remember her well and she was one of my favorite people--she often told me --" Willard----stay away from those doctors, they'll kill you " She was a tiny woman and one day as she and I were walking down a street in Denver a carload of men whistled at her before they saw her well and she was near 100 years old then."-----Herbert Willard Brosius 1999.

Anna gave her birth place as Illinois 3 census years and Indiana 2 census years. On the 1900 census, Anna indicated that she had not borne children. Her birth date was shown as Dec 1870. Her father was shown as born in England, the mother's birthplace was unknown. Herbert W and Lydia Parker lived next to them in Montrose, Colorado. Lydia was born Aug 1875 with matching parent information. (probably her sister). In the 1910 census, Anna was listed as widowed. Her age was shown as 40. She worked as a dressmaker out of the house. Her father was listed as born in England, her mother in Arkansas. She was a lodger at 324 W 13th Avenue, in Denver, Denver County, Colorado, with Herbert W. and Lydia Parker. At the time of the 1920 census, she was living at 2789 Dunkeld Place, Denver. (This is the address her nephew John Herbert Brosius used when writing from Germany during WWI.) Her age was shown as 47. She was working as a dressmaker at home. She gave her father's birth place as England and her mother's birth place as Tennessee. By the time of the 1930 census, she had married Frank Richey. Her age was shown as 57. They were boarding with Daniel and Lily Parker in Rifle, Garfield County, Colorado. (Apparently no relation to Herbert Parker--very different info for the parents.) Her father's birth place was shown as England, her mother's as Missouri. She and Frank Richey were back in Denver by 1935. He managed the apartment house at 1601 East 14th Ave. She had an 8th grade education.

Social Security had her last residence as Denver, Denver County, Colorado. Her death certificate showed her last residence as Wide Horizon Sanatorium, Wheat Ridge, Jefferson County, Colorado. It is a Christian Science Sanatorium. It began in the Yousee House built in the early 1900's, modern buildings built in 1989. The informant on her death certificate was her niece, Anna Bryant of Sacramento, California.
