When Emmett registered for the WWI draft on 5 Jun 1917, he was employed as a bookkeeper for M. H. Reed & Co., in Marble Falls, Texas. He was married with one child. On the 1920 census in Marble Falls, Burnet County, Texas, he showed his occupation as bookkeeper for a merchantile company. He owned his home free of mortgage. On the 1930 census in Marble Falls, Emmett gave his occupation as retail merchant of mens clothing. He owned his home valued at $2500. A boarder Gerhardt Lechow, 29 a dry goods salesman, was listed with the family. He paid $30 a month rent. Emmett had been a merchant with a clothing store for 25 years before his death.
