James married Mary Frances Davis, daughter of Capt Albert Gallatin Davis and Julia Ann Penney, in 1865.1 (Mary Frances Davis was born on 12 Mar 1849 in Mirabile, Caldwell County, Missouri,6 died on 10 Mar 1914 in Trenton, Grundy County, Missouri 6 and was buried on 13 Mar 1914 in Hamilton, Caldwell County, Missouri 6.). The cause of her death was acute peritonitis due to perforated duodenum.
