State of Alabama Blount County Aprile 6th 1853

Dear brothers
I know embrace the opportunity of writing a few lines to inform you that we are all as well as common. We have all had the mumps only mother and Levi. Hoping thes lines will reach your hands and find you both enjoying good helth. The dancers and players all acknowledged that they was sorrow for what they had done and they all remain in the church.

A few lines to Eli I want you to spread yourself for Francis Golispie has made her lofty brags that she would be before you in grammar wen you came home. She said that you had beter staid at home for Thomas is the best teacher and she will have the advantage of you. I think that if you will spread yourself that you can beat any of the Short stock.

You requested my to wright about the girls. Mary G. Tannehill says that she had like to fainted wen you passed. She said she would have fainted if aunt had not been close by with warm dish watter. She said that if you was to come back she would faint and never come to in this world. I was with Martha Yielding and Jo the fourth sabbath in March. They told me that they thought that Elisa Coplen and Bale Cornelius would get married before long.

I suppose that you would like to know about your mules. They have been worked in the thrash and they worked well. They are plowing know.

I am sorrow to inform you that your puppies are dead. They was growing beautiful. All at once they was taken sick. They lived one half day and one knight.

Pap has got his bed stid posts turned and at the workshop in the dry.

I received the letter that you sent by Andrew Swan. You stated that you had rote before but I never received. I herd of it being seed at Gills. I want you to wright imediately and let me know all about how you are coming on.

Tombstone inscription: A father and mother to orphans. And on her individual stone: Not my will but thine be done. Sarah had no children of her own, but she raised orphaned stepchildren of her second husband and some of his step grandchildren. At the time of the 1870 census, Sarah was keeping house and raising her husband's stepchildren, Joseph, John, Martha, and George Liles. They farmed in Johnson County, Texas. There was only a boarder listed in the household in 1880.

At the time of the 1900 census, her home included Mattie and Bertha Murphy, daughters of Martha Liles. Mattie was newly married to Sarah's nephew Jesse Monroe Head. At the time of the 1910 census, Sarah was living with Jesse and Mattie Head in Johnson County, Texas.
