  General Notes:

In the 1900 census, he reported that he was paying a mortgage on his farm in Scurry County, Texas. At the time of the 1930 census, William and Sarah Elizabeth were living in San Angelo, Tom Green County, Texas, where he worked as a carpenter. His great niece and his wife's niece, Vonnie Head, lived with them. There was also a roomer, Oscar L. Bridges. He owned his home which was valued at $3000. The death certificate showed his occupation as stock farmer, ranching. He had lived in Lometa, Lampasas County, Texas for 1 year.

W. E. Head
The funeral for W. E. Head was conducted September 24th, 1962 by his pastor Reverend C. A. Miller in the Methodist Church at Lometa, Texas.

Soft music was played by his great niece, Mrs. Silas M. Price, organist of the church. By special request of his wife, the choir softly sang a beloved favorite hymn of Mr. Head's: "A Charge to Keep I Have". A prayer followed this by the pastor, "Rock of Ages" was beautifully sung by the choir, after which his nephew, Rev. Tom M. Mitchell, gave a poem, which was read more than seventy-five years ago, at the funeral of the deceased's grandfather, Samson Head. Reverend Mitchell closed the reading of the poem with a prayer.

Two great-nieces, Mrs. Thurman Head and Mrs. Charlie Sheldon impressively sang a duet: "Beyond the Sunset".

William Eli Head was born July 5, 1866 near Alverado in Johnson County, Texas. At the age of six he moved with his parents, the late Judge and Mrs. J. B. Head, to the frontier community of Center City which was then in Hamilton County. He grew to manhood here, and at the age of twenty four joined the Methodist Church, and for many years served in various official capacities of this church.

In the early nineties he moved to the West, and for thirty years was a successful stock-farmer. It was here he established his first home. He was married to Miss LeeAnna Taylor, and eight children from this union survive him-----three sons and five daughters: James, Chleo, Ather, Catherine, Gertrude, Charlotte, Oleta, and Bernice. Because of his health he moved from the Plains to South Texas in the early twenties.

In 1927 he was married to Miss Sadie Elizabeth Owens of Center City. One daughter was born who died in infancy. He has been living in Lometa for eighteen months, having moved here from Weatherford.

Besides his children mentioned above, he is survived by his wife, one brother Chris Head of Weatherford, Mrs. Jim Littlepage of Snyder, Mrs. Ben F. Littlepage of Weatherford and Miss Gertrude Head of Caradan. Fourteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Pall-bearers were his nephews: Charlie Sheldon, Farras Head, Horace Core, Melvin Landers, Thurman Head, Sam S. Owens, Davis Owens, and John H. Owens.

He was laid to rest in Lometa Memorial Cemetery with Briggs-Gamel Funeral Home of Lampasas in charge. His family wishes to thank Brother Miller for his beautiful message of comfort and of challenge.
