HALTOM CITY -- Walterine Brand, 78, a homemaker, died Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at her residence.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 2004, at the Mountain Valley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial: Bethany Cemetery. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Mrs. Brand was a member of the Fundamental Baptist Church of Alvarado.

Survivors are husband, Bill Brand of Haltom City; sons, R.L. McElroy Jr. and wife Vondele of Rhome, Larry Gene Burdette and wife Peggy of Springtown, Joe Harley Brand of Utah, Edward Dean Brand and wife Betty of Missouri and Terry Lee Brand and wife Melody of Fort Worth; daughters, Beth Smith of Burleson, Willette Reed and husband Ed of North Richland Hills, Beverly Hunsuckle and husband Steve of Granbury and Cindy Birmingham and husband Gary of Haltom City; brother, Cary Newby and wife Beatrice of Burleson; sister, Marie Gillaspie of Alvarado; 49 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Brand was preceded in death by her sister, Beatrice Reid and a brother, W.J. "Dub" Newby.

Note: Beverly Hunsuckle and R. L. McElroy Jr are stepchildren by way of R. L. McElroy Sr. Willette Reed, Joe Harley Brand, Edward Dean Brand, and Terry Lee Brand are stepchildren by way of William Joe Brand.

Social Security had her last residence as Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas.

Walterine married William Joe Brand, son of James Asberry Brand and Lillian Thompson.

Walterine next married Richard Lynn McElroy Sr.
