General Notes:
According to Lawrence Head, John's natural father was his mother's first husband, E. L. Cornell. The birth record shows the father as her second husband, J. C. Cowan. (Which would be the case if Mr. Cowan adopted John.) Lawrence Head wrote that John was adopted by her third husband, Chester Douglas Thompson. If so the birth record wasn't updated. In any case, it appears that he used Thompson with Social Security. Social Security had his last residence as Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas.
