Her parents were probably William and Annie Jackel who were listed next to her young family on the 1900 census in Burnet County, Texas. (Shown as William and Earnestine Jakel on her death certificate.) They like her were 1882 immigrants from Germany. By the time of the 1900 census, Laura had born 3 children with all still living. On the 1930 census, she indicated that she was a naturalized citizen.

The cause of his death was carcinoma of prostate, bronchopneumonia.⁷
