His parents were William Henry Naumann Sr and Ernestine Laura Jakel. His father was born in the US of German born parents. His mother was born in Germany.

When William registered for the WWI draft on 6 May 1917, he was farming in Spicewood, Burnet County, Texas. He was married to Susie Hooker. They had married 12 Jul 1916. He requested an exemption based on his occupation and relatives. He was farming as part of his father's household at the time of the 1910 and 1920 census in Burnet County, Texas. In 1920, he was widowed, with a 2 year old son and 4 month old daughter.

At the time of the 1930 census, William rented his home on a farm in Burnet County, Texas. He reported that he was 21 when he first married. Two children from that marriage were listed with him: Fred 13 and Hilda M. 10, both born in Texas. He had been married to Valda for one year. He indicated his parents were born in Germany, but his father gave New York, Illinois, then US as his birthplace on previous census reports. His mother always gave Germany as her birthplace.

The children later went to live with their grandparents Henry and Laura Naumann.

His daughter Hilda Mae Pearson (Mrs. Ciscero Pearson) of Austin, Texas, hosted a reception for her father and stepmother Valda to celebrate their 50th anniversary at the Spicewood Community Center, Spicewood, Burnet County, Texas.

Excerpt from his obituary: He was a lifetime resident of this area (Burnet County, Texas) and was a barber in his early years. He also was a carpenter and rancher and loved to fish.

Social Security had his last residence as Marble Falls, Burnet County, Texas.
