Their parents were Andre Kauss and Rosie Kiesner, both born in Germany. She first worked for the Goeth Family at Cypress Mill, Blanco County, Texas.

She married Gustav Siewert, who came from Posen, Germany, on 12 Jun 1887 and they had two sons, Otto and Ed. Gustav drowned around 1891 trying to cross Wallace Hollow near his home during a rain storm. Both boys passed away, possibly of whooping cough in 1894.

By the time of the 1900 census, she had borne 6 children with 4 still living. By the 1910 census, she had borne 10 with 7 still living. On the 1920 census, Amelia reported that she had become a naturalized citizen in 1916.
