Sue Jane Howard

Sue McCurry, 77, of Driftwood, formerly of Brownwood, passed away on Feb. 27, 2015.
Interment in Eastlawn Memorial Park.

Sue Jane was born Oct. 27, 1937, in Brownwood to H.D. "Curly" and Ruth Howard. She graduated from Brownwood High School in 1955 and continued her education at then Howard Payne College. She married shortly thereafter and had three children, Mark, Marci and Susan. They moved to Dallas, then Clear Lake City, and Sue finally returned to Brownwood in 1978, where she remained until 2007. She moved to Dripping Springs with her daughter Marci, where she was able to enjoy her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Sue worked for Texas Employment Commission in Austin and Brownwood. She also taught typing at the Commercial College in Brownwood for several years. Although Sue suffered a major stroke when she was just 36 years old, leaving her permanently disabled, she never lost her faith or her sense of humor, and spent many hours encouraging others.

Sue was preceded in death by her son, Mark, who was killed in an offshore oil rig accident in 1983 and her youngest daughter, Susan, in 1990, who died of cancer soon after the birth of her only child, Morgan. She was also preceded in death by her father, H.D. Howard.

She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Ruth and Joe Bob Browning; brother, Don Howard of Brownwood; her daughter and son-in-law, Marci and J. Fowlkes of Driftwood; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.She is also survived by her stepsister and husband, Kathy and Bob Rogers, and their family.

Sue married Robert Cloyes McCurry, son of Robert Earl McCurry and Reva Twila Parsons.
