Gary Dale Head

Gary Dale Head, 86, of Center City, Texas, passed away Friday, Jan. 14, 2022, at Center City.

Head was born June 18, 1935, in Goldthwaite, to Chester Clint Head and Lena Mae Casbeer Head. He married Barbara Jo Blackshear on Aug. 13, 1971, in Goldthwaite. He was born in Mills Coun-ty, and lived here since 1992. He was a member of the Center City Baptist Church, and worked as a USDA Federal Agent. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022, 5-7 p.m. Services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2022, 2 p.m. at Stacy-Wilkins Chapel in Goldthwaite. Interment will follow at Center City Cemetery in Center City. Dallas Huston officiated. Pallbearers were Chester Berry, Kellis Landrum, James Crumley, Craig Auldridge, Code Ables, Shawn Calder; honorary pallbearer was Harold Henderson.

Head is survived by his wife, Barbara Jo Head of Center City; his children, Allison Dale Head-Bennett and Jonathan of Center City, and their daughter Cora, Adam Stanley of the Philippines, Delia Thompson of Bowie; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces, neph-ews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester Clint Head and Lena Mae Casbeer Head; his brother, Charles R. Head; his aunt, Pearl Casbeer; and his uncles, Wilson Head, Gerald Head, Lyndondale Head.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Goldthwaite High School Golf Team, Goldthwaite, Texas 76844.

In memory of Gary Head, my friend and classmate

I am sad to learn of Gary's death and sad for all his fam-ily. I am also sad that I couldn't be there for his funeral and pay my respect. From the day he joined our GHS class of 1953, he earned my esteem. He was good at everything he did and always a pleasure to be with. Even though our paths in life took us far apart, somehow we became closer. Over the years, when he learned I was in town he never failed to come and see me. On my last visit, even as sick as he was, he came and we discussed everything from family, friends, climate change and world disorder. I think he en-joyed our exchanges as much as I did because we not only heard each other, we listened to each other. I always came away feeling good knowing the world is a better place be-cause of people like him.

An old cowboy would say, with the highest regards, "He is one to cross the river with". When it's my time to cross that river, I will look forward to seeing Gary there on the other side!
