His christened name may have been Frank Wilhelm Christian Berg. Frank's parents, William Johann Ferdinand Berg and Johanna Ernestine Wilhelmina Roeske, came to America in 1894 from Germany. At the time of the 1910 census, they were in Wilbarger County, Texas, where his father farmed. German was spoken in the home and no one in the family spoke English at that time. At the time to the 1920 census, they were living in Williamson County, Texas, where his father farmed. The census is marked that all family members could speak English.
At the time of the 1930 census, Frank was an employee at an automobile shop. He rented his home in Taylor, Williamson County, Texas, for $11 a month. He had 2 roomers listed with the household. One was 20 year old Emil Cook, which may have been his wife's brother. His own brother Emil was married to his wife's sister Jessie and lived next to him.
