His father was born in Missouri, his mother in Arkansas. When Uhre registered for the WWI draft on 5 Jun 1917, he was a fireman for OWR & N Co in La Grande, Union County, Oregon. He had a wife and 3 children. (According to the 1930 census, he had married at age 19.) He claimed an exemption because of his dependent family. At the time of the 1930 census, Uhre was working for the steam railway. He rented his home in Grand Junction, Mesa County, Colorado, for $20 a month. Social Security had his last residence as Grand Junction, Mesa County, Colorado.
