Eugene's parents were Fred M. Sr and Caroline L. Taylor both born in New York. They are buried by him in Fairmount Cemetery, Denver, Denver County, Colorado.

Eugene joined the staff of the Inter Ocean-Denver News in Chicago on 9 Apr 1901 and began his assignment there right after his Colorado wedding. At the time of the 1910 census, he was renting his home in Delta, Delta County, Colorado. He was employed as a publicity agent. His parents and a lodger, Leroy Albin 22 were listed in his household.

Eugene married Clara C. Sears, daughter of Jasper Peck Sears Jr and Anna Love George, on 11 Apr 1901 in Rifle, Garfield County, Colorado. (Clara C. Sears was born in Oct 1876 in Denver, Arapahoe County, Colorado ².)
