General Notes:
Source: Family records. A birth record in the family bible. Feb 9, Jun 29 and Oct 12, 1917 Rifle "Telegram-Reveille" articles. Had about 8 children. All eight were born in Maine. Dave visited his parents in Antlers on February 4, 1917 while in Rifle on business. While in the Rifle, Colorado area, he received his World War I draft number, No. 498. He registered in precinct No. 12 (Antlers, Colorado) on June 5, 1917. That record shows his middle name to be Walter, not Web.

David W. Mallory, 63, of Sawyer Rd. formerly of Portland died unexpectedly in his home yesterday after a brief illness.

He served in the Army Signal Corps as a radio operator during World War I, and during World War II, was employed with the Civil Service with Water Transportation at Fort Williams. He was retired from his civilian occupation as a marine electrician.
He leaves his widow, the former Ella Phillips: six sons, Rodney W., Miles M., and Phillips E., Scarborough; David W. More about Dave - by Gene H. George
Dave suffered with asthma. When returning to Colorado after World War I, he discovered his asthma was much better when he was closer to the sea, so he returned to the east coast. After completing radio school he went to sea for a time on a freighter. He had a shop where he manufactured and sold radios and after that a tire store. Eight years during this period he was out of touch with his brother and sisters. It wasn't until it became necessary to settle the parents estate that Otis had him found and he again was in touch with the family. He was an amateur photographer and an avid baseball fan. For some reason he told everyone the W. in his name stood for Walter and even named son David, Walter, and called him Jr. Shortly before his death, Ella discovered his name was Web. When she asked him about it he said he didn't like the guy he was named after. I have no idea what this meant.
Information on Dave and his family has been hard to come by, so this family stands very incomplete.
