Emma's parents were born in Germany. Her father may have been August Heine, 1871 immigrant from Germany who was listed in Washington County, Texas, with his wife Friedricke in 1880, and in Williamson County, Texas, widowed at the time of the 1900 census. His daughter Emma's birth date was given as Feb 1887 however. (Several Ancestry member trees show her parents as August William Heine and Friedricke Haviland.)

Emma and Emil were living in Milam County, Texas at the time of the 1910 census. By the time of the 1920 census, Emma had become widowed. She and August were listed as lodgers with several others in the household of Emil Galler in Port Arthur, Jefferson County, Texas. She had no occupation listed. At the time of the 1930 census, she was listed as the wife of apparently the same Emil Galler. They rented a home in Montebello, Los Angeles County, California.

She registered to vote as a Democrat in Laguna Precinct No. 3, Los Angeles County, California, in 1934. The family's address was 3632 E. 5th St.

Her mother's maiden name was Haveland.

Emma married Emil W. Kraatz, son of August Kraatz and Anna Garlipp, on 3 Jun 1907 in , Milam County, Texas. (Emil W. Kraatz was born in Jun 1884 in Texas and died on 30 Dec 1912 ⁵.)

Emma next married Emil Herman Galler, son of Galler and Kunda. (Emil Herman Galler was born on 3 May 1887 in Scribner, Dodge County, Nebraska ^{4 6} and died on 1 Dec 1952 in , Los Angeles County, California ⁴.)
