At the time of the 1900 census, Alfred was working as a clerk for the county. He lived in San Jose, Santa Clara County, California. When Alfred registered for the WWI draft on 12 Sep 1918, he was a sales manager for E. Clemens Horst Company in New York City. His nearest relative was his sister Mattie, Mrs. Edward McManimon of San Jose, California. His address appears to be the same as brother Everett at the Hotel Longacre on west 47th St. At the time of the 1920 census, Alfred was a barley dealer. He was a lodger in a house on West 47th street in Manhattan, New York County, New York. At the time of the 1930 census, Alfred was a merchant of hats and caps. He was living with his sister Mattie and her husband in San Jose, Santa Clara County, California.

Alfred's birth date was shown as Dec 1875 on the 1900 census. The California Death index had it as 11 Dec 1876.
