General Notes:
Eula Isabelle on her birth record, Eulabel on the record for her son Charles.
Eulabel Sheldon Sheldon loved mu-sic. She sang in the church choir and played the piano for the Star United Methodist Church back in the day. And so, at her 100th birthday par-ty, family and friends urged her to sing. The pianist was ready with her favorite song - "Somewhere Over the Rain-bow." Eulabel demurred, and then, her voice barely above a whisper, she began, "Because He lives, I can face tomorrow, because He lives, all fear is gone," her quavering voice growing stronger with each stanza of the beloved Gaither hymn. It was her gentle way of giving credit where cred-it was due - to God -- and at the same time, answering the question that people had been asking all day: "What's the se-cret of a long life?"
A woman of great strength and faith, Eulabel Sheldon died Jan. 27 in Arlington, TX, at the age of 101. She was a wife and mother, a grandmother and great-grand-mother, a marvelous cook whose cheesecake was leg-endary, a gardener, an avid Dallas Mavericks fan, a beautician, and a master of the 1960s home permanent. She was the fun older cousin and the dependable big sister; she was the niece who stopped by every day to check on her widowed aunt. She was a true friend and always a gracious lady.
Eulabel Sheldon was born on June 12, 1916, to Ben and Viola Head Chappell, in Center City, Texas. She grad-uated from Center City High School and attended Tarleton State College in Stephenville before marrying Charlie Shel-don on Feb. 15, 1935. They were married 71 years, until Charlie's death in 2006.
Eulabel and Charlie had one son, Charles Mitchell Sheldon, who died in 2013 of West Nile virus.
Except for a few years in Fort Worth and Redondo Beach, CA., Eulabel spent most of her life in Central Texas. She operated a beauty shop and helped Charlie on their ranch near Star. After re-tiring in 1981, she and Char-lie lived in Lampasas, where they hosted friends and family and fished for white bass on the Colorado River. In 2002, they moved to Arlington to be close to their son and his family.
She is survived by a sister, Rena V. Karnes, of Torrance, CA., a daughter-in-law, Linda Sheldon of Arlington; a grand-daughter, Nikki Sheldon, of Arlington; great-granddaugh-ters, Halie Sheldon Ball of Oklahoma City and Marlie Sheldon Ball of Rogers Ar-kansas; and niece Sandra Marshall of Torrance, CA. 5
Eulabel married Charles Colquit Sheldon, son of David Wales Sheldon and Ida O. Waddill. (Charles Colquit Sheldon was born on 2 Jan 1914 6 and died on 24 Mar 2006 6.)
