  General Notes:

Excerpts from "Mills County Memories":

On Sundays, Sunday school and church were in order, but Sunday afternoons were time to pay. Gerald and Lendon had made their entry into the family and joined whatever part they could play. Hollis and Howard Blackwell and many other boys came to play. The boys used china berry limbs for vaulting poles, a jumping pit with no sand, boxing gloves, baseballs and bats, footballs and basketballs.

Those Sunday afternoons influenced Talmage and Wilson to play high school football in Goldthwaite then college football at Daniel Baker, afterwards making coaches.

Wilson coached at Star, Texas for three years. While at Star he married a teacher, Iva Pearl Neighbours, daughter of J.I. Neighbours, also a teacher, and Ethel Soules Neighbours. After three years the couple moved to Lockney, Texas where a beautiful baby girl, Ira Kay, was born. After three years at Lockney the Wilson Head family moved to Denver City, Texas, a desolate oil town in the middle of nowhere. Wilson promised Iva Pearl if she would move with him he would move after three years. Seventeen years later they moved back to Star.

In Denver City, Wilson coached football for fourteen years, but due to his health he resigned this position and took the job as principal of Intermediate School. Iva Pearl was an elementary teacher and Ira Kay completed her high school education.

Iva Pearl never reminded Wilson of his promise made in 1943. She taught the seventeen years and enjoyed living there. The school furnished a new teacherage for thirteen years then they built a new home which was hard to leave.

At Star Wilson served as superintendent until he heard ranching call then he retired in 1964 and has been running cattle and working pecans, some his dad grafted years before. The land is part of the estate of his great, great grandfather dating back to 1877.

Social Security had his last residence as Goldthwaite, Mills County, Texas. Listed as Wilson Head. 3
