Rowena taught elementary school starting in 1948 in Keene, Texas, to Joshua, Texas, then Cleburne, Texas. She taught 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grades and remedial reading. She stayed active with the retired teachers association even after macular degeneration took most of her eyesight. She had a strong interest in family history and did early research and helped later researchers put the family tree together.

Service for Evelyn Rowena Head, 90, of Cleburne will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, March 11, 2018 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. The Reverend Andy Tyler will officiate. Burial will be in Buel Cemetery in Johnson County. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 P.M., Saturday, March 10, at the funeral home.
Evelyn Rowena Head passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 in Granite Shoals. She was born on September 26, 1927 in Cleburne, the daughter of Marion R. and Grace Kirkham Head.
Miss Head was a retired teacher, having taught in the public schools of Keene, Joshua, and Cleburne for 38 years. She was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church, The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, and the Texas Retired Teachers Association. Her survivors include a number of nieces and nephews; and many great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews. She was an inspiration to many family members, students, and friends.
