Mr. Booker Funeral services for Vance A. Booker, 85, of Lampasas were March 17, 2006, at Briggs-Gamel-Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Reid Schaub officiating. Burial with military honors was at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Booker died March 14 at Metroplex Hospital in Killeen.
He was born Jan. 6, 1921, in the Center City Community in Mills County, to Melvin and Mary Elizabeth Lucas Booker. On Sept. 10, 1943, he married Vela Stephan in Goldthwaite. Mr. Booker served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1964, he moved to Lampasas and retired from Lone Star Gas with more than 37 years of service. Mr. Booker was an avid hunter and fisherman, and in his later years he enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors include his wife of Lampasas; two daughters, Linda Miller, and husband, Shorty, of Cedar Park, and Gloria Hall-Bower, of Bertram; seven grandchildren, Kathie Miller, Kevin Churchwell, Amber Shaw, Bryan Hall, Steve Hall, Ron Hall and Paul Hall; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Booker, and a sister, Ethel Graham. Pallbearers were Kevin Churchwell, Chance Webb, Larry Holybee, Bryan Hall, Travis Shaw, Steve Hall, Ron Hall, Paul Hall and Matthew Neely.
Honorary pallbearers were Shorty Miller, Danny Brittain, Charles Van Stephan and Fred Faust. The family requested memorials be made to Community Church in Lampasas.
